Sony Reader Touch Edition - eBook Reader Compare

Finally, Sony offers to its dedicated customers one of the most convenient and portable electronic book readers on the market today. Lightweight and extremely easy to carry, the PRS Portable Reader System is able to store several thousand books at a time. Overall, this ebook reader review is positive, but there are a few glitches that still need to be worked out.

First, the Sony electronic book reader is slow turning pages. The delay isn’t bad, but it is noticeable as you’re reading along. The controls take a little getting used to, and purchasing compatible books for this device is about as expensive as purchasing the paperback version of the book itself.

Font size can be easily adjusted with this electronic book reader, though, so it’s especially attractive to people with vision problems. Additionally, the device has a fairly long battery life, and the ebook reader is capable of reading most file formats. It also features a slot for the optional addition of an SD or Memory Stick Pro memory card.

This electronic book reader does not have a backlight, but ebooks are still easy to read in well-lit rooms. Instead, the display features a high-contrast monochrome screen. The reader itself is about the size of a smaller paperback novel, but heavier. Additionally, even when the text size is set on the smallest possible size, fewer lines are available per page than on that of a standard paperback book. For that reason, it doesn't rate very well in this ebook reader comparison. .

As we compare ereaders we have to note that this ebook reader review does give the device extra points for easy readability (the high-contrast display certainly helps to avoid eye fatigue) and for portability. Downsides to this ebook reader, though, include the reader’s slowness in responding to a page-turning command, and controls that took some time to operate properly.

This ebook reader features excellent electronics and a high-quality operational platform. The Sony name is a name that electronics buyers recognize and trust, and there is much to appreciation about this reader. The cost of compatible books, though, may prove a deterrent to some prospective buyers. Unless the prices become more comparable to those of other electronic book readers, our e book reader comparison predicts that Sony isn’t likely capture the e book reader market any time soon.
